Ageratum, (also known as Floss Flower & Whiteweed), is a genus of the Asteraceae family and is native to Mexico.
Ageratum has small clusters of fluffy flowers and beautiful deep green heart shaped leaves. Several varieties of ageratum are toxic, containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
Although the ageratum plant only flowers between July and December, it is available as a cut flower almost year round these days and is becoming more and more popular for it's use in wedding flowers.
In the wholesale flower markets ageratum is sold in wraps of ten stems and is extensively used in floristry, together with other flowers, for vintage wedding flowers.

Caring for
Ageratum
To get the best from your wholesale cut ageratum please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Strip any foliage from below the water line.
- Fill sterilised buckets with cold water and add flower food.
- Place the ageratum in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the ageratum in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
