Cestrum is a genus of the Solanaceae family and is native to the south Americas. Cestrum is commonly known as ‘cestrums’ or ‘jessamines’ because of their jasmine like fragrance.
Many varieties if cestrum are poisonous and can cause gastroenteritis is ingested. In Australia Green Cestrum is toxic to livestock and can be the cause of death if the leaves are eaten.
Cestrum is available as a cut flower on the wholesale flower markets and is usually sold in wraps of 10 stems. Stem lengths are normally no taller than 60cm.
Cestrum is not a focal flower but is a superb addition to any summer flower arrangement and is often used in wedding flowers these days.

Cestrum
To get the best from your wholesale cut cestrum please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the cestrum in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the cestrum in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
