Kniphofia, (also known as Red Hot Pokers, Torch Lilies, Tritoma and Rocket Flowers), are a genus of the Asphodelaceae family and are native to Africa.
Kniphofia was named after the German botanist Johann Hieronymus Kniphof. Because of the bright colours of the flowers kniphofia attracts many insects and sap suckers like humming birds for pollination.
Kniphofia are very popular with flower demonstartors because of their shape and colour and also look great when used in wedding flowers.
In the wholesale flower markets fresh cut kniphofia, (red hot pokers), are sold in wraps of 10 stems and are usually no taller than 80cm.

To get the best from your wholesale cut kniphofia please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Strip the lower foliage from the stems.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the kniphofia in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the gentiana in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
