Phornium Tenex, (otherwise known as New Zealand Phlax), has very strong sword shaped leaves and grows in a variety of colours.
Many years ago in New Zealand the Maori used Phornium Tenex to make clothes, eel traps, fishing nets, bags, mats, sandals, buckets, rope, cooking utensils etc. Infact Phornium Tenex was so important to the Maori that they propogated their own nurseries.
Phornium Tenex is available on the wholesale flower markets all year round in two varieties - bi-colour green & cream & bi-colour green & red. It is usually around 80cm tall and is sold in bunches of 10 stems.
Phornium Tenex is popular with flower arranging demonstrators and also look fantastic when used for wedding flowers.

Phornium Tenex (New Zealand Flax)
To get the best from your wholesale cut phornium tenex please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with warm water and add flower food.
- Place the phornium tenex in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut foliage in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm some foliages). Keep the phornium tenex in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
