Saponaria, (otherwise known as Soapwort), is a genus of the Caryophyllaceae family and is native to southwest Asia and southern Europe.
Saponaria flowers are tiny and each has five petals. The common name ‘soapwort’ is derived from the fact the leaves and roots have been used in the manufacturer of soap and shampoo since the Renaissance.
Saponaria is also an ingredient of Halva – a candy, made from tahini and sugar.
In the wholesale flower markets saponaria is available in cut form and is sold in wraps of 10 or 20 stems. Sapnaria is becoming more & more popular for use in wedding flowers.

To get the best from your wholesale cut saponaria please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the saponaria in the buckets making sure the stems are supported.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the saponaria in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
