Skimmia is a genus of the Rutaceae family and is native to Asia. Skimmia leaves are positioned at the end of the shoots and the small flowers are clustered. The flowers are between 6-15mm in diameter, (depending on the variety), and have between 4-7 petals on each. Skimmia has a very pungent small when crushed.
Skimmia is also grown commercially as a cut flower these days and three varieties are usually available: Skimmia Japnica Rubella, Skimmia Kew Green and Skimmia Emerald King. Recently skimmia has become a popular cut flower in Autumn wedding flowers.
On the wholesale flower markets skimmia is sold in weighted bunches - usually five at a time. Stem lengths vary from 35-45cm.

Caring for
Skimmia
To get the best from your wholesale cut skimmia please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Strip the lower foliage from the stems.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the skimmia in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the skimmia in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
