Waxflower, (real name: Chamelaucium), is a genus of the Myrtaceae family and is native to Western Australia. The flowers of chamelaucium closely resemble the tea-tree plant – Leptospermum.
Chamelaucium is commonly known as the Waxplant and The Wax Flower – this is because it has a waxy feel to the petals.
Waxflower grows naturally in heathland conditions and is also commonly found near the coast in Australia.
In floristry, waxflower is mainly used as a filler flower in a similar way to gypsophilia. It is commercially available in pinks, white, cream, cerise and burgundy.
Most waxflower available on the UK wholesale flower markets is imported from Israel and stem lengths vary from 60cm – 120cm tall. The waxflower is branched with 100’s of small flowers on each stem. White waxflower is very popular for use in wedding flowers these days.

Waxflower (Chamelaucium)
To get the best from your wholesale cut waxflower please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the waxflower in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the waxflower in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
