Campanula (Bell Flowers)

The Campanula is a genus of the Campanulaceae family and the common name for campanula is the ‘Bell Flower’. The word ‘campanula’ is Latin for ‘little bell’.

Campanula is a typical summer flower with lovely green leaves. There are different varieties of campanula grown commercially for the floristry trade.

Campanula Glomerata is the exception to the rule when it comes to bell shaped flowers because it has a single large scruffy blue flower at the top of the stem. Typical varieties of campanula with bell shaped flowers are Campanula Champion Blue and Campanula Prelude Pink. These two varieties have multiple flowers up the stems.

In the wholesale flower markets campanula is available through the summer months. Campanula Glomerata has a very short season and is only available in June, July and August though. The average stem length for cut campanula is 60 / 70cm tall.

Campanula is a very soft and fragile cut flower and needs to be treated with care. It also has a short vase life like many other summer flowers, so consideration has to be given before using it in floral arragements and wedding flowers.

To get the best from your wholesale cut campanula please read the care instructions below carefully:

Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
Place the campanula in the buckets.
Leave over night to condition before using.

Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the campanula in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
