Craspedia (Billy Buttons)
Craspedia, (otherwise commonly known as Billy Buttons and Woollyheads), are native to Australia and New Zealand.
The single little spherical, yellow flower grows on the top of a slender green stem. The flower heads are made up of numerous tiny florets
Craspedia is very popular for drying and can be used to dramatic effect when clustered closely together in flower arrangements. It is also common practice to dye the round flower heads in bright colours such as red, blue, orange, purple and green for corporate functions where matching company logos and product colours is required. Craspedia also look great at Christmas time when dyed metallic gold and silver. In 2011 craspedia was in big demand for its use in wedding flowers.
Craspedia is available in the wholesale flower markets and is sold in wraps of 20 or 50 stems. Stem lengths are usually around 60/70cm tall.
To dry craspedia, simply hang upside down in a warm, dry and dark place.
