Asparagus Fern
Asparagus fern is a genus of the 'Asparagaceae' family and there are over 300 species known to date. The most well known asparagus is the edible variety called Asparagus Officinalis - all other varieties are ornimental plants.
In floristry, asparagus fern is an important ingredient and is widely used in wedding flowers. There are quite a few commercially grown varieties that are specifically produced for the wholesale cut flower market - the most well known being 'asparagus setaceus', commonly known as 'button hole fern'.
In the wholesale flower markets asparagus fern is sold differently, depending on the variety. For example: Asparagus Sprengerii is sold by the weighted bunch, (normally two at a time). Asparagus Setaceus is available in two stem lengths: 45cm & 70cm and there are 50 stems per bunch. Asparagus Treefern is sold by the weighted bunch. Asparagus Umbellatus, (Ming Fern), is available in two stem lengths: 60cm & 80cm and there are 10 stems per bunch. Asparagus Smilax is sold by the weighted bunch.

To get the best from your wholesale cut asparagus fern please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the asparagus fern in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut foliage in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit may harm most foliages). Keep the asparagus fern in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
