Pittosporum

Pittosporum, (otherwise known in the floristry trade simply as 'pitto'), is a genus of the Pittosporaceae family and is native to New Zealand.
Commercially, pittosporum is available on the wholesale flower markets in two varieties:
Pitto Ilan - otherwise known as 'large pitto', is sold in wraps of 50 or 10 stems at a time. It has varigated leaves and is great when used in flower bouquets & arrangements because of it's bulk.
Pitto Tenuifolium - otherwise known as 'small pitto' and also often called Pitto Nigra. The word 'nigra', meaning 'black' is reference to its black woody stems. Small Pittosporum has small varigated leaves and is sold by the weighted bunch. It is also prone to drying out easily and the leaves dropping. Pitto Tenuifolium is the variety of pittosporum most used in wedding flowers.

To get the best from your wholesale cut pittosporum, (pitto), please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the pittosporum in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut foliage in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the pittosporum in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
