Syringa (Lilac)

Syringa, (Lilac), is a genus of the olive family Oleaceae and is native to east Asia and south east Europe.
In Greece and Cyprus syringa is called Paschalia, (meaning Easter), because this is the time of year that lilacs are most commonly in flower. Syringa is also the symbol of love in the language of flowers.
Syringa Vulgaris is now the state flower of New Hampshire, US. Lombard, Illinois in the US is known as the ‘Lilac City’ and hosts a lilac festival every May.
In the wholesale flower markets syringa is sold in wraps of 10 stems. The higher grade, (wedding flower grade), syringa are sold with four buds per stem and the cheaper grades, two buds per stem. Stem lengths vary between 60 – 80cm depending of the grade required.

To get the best from your wholesale cut syringa please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Place the syringa in the buckets.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the syringa in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
