Hyacinths are a genus of the Hyacinthaceae family and were originally native to the eastern Mediterranean, west Iran and Turkey. Now mostly grown under glass in Holland, the hyacinth has a dense spike of fragrant flowers and comes in shades of red, blue, white, cream, orange, pink, lilac and yellow. The hyacinth is also related to the Grape Hyacinth, otherwise known as Muscari.
In the wholesale flower markets hyacinths are sold in wraps of 25 stems and are sold in stem lengths of between 25 - 35cm tall. Hyacinths are a very popular Christmas flower because of their stunning show of bright colours, seasonal availability and beautiful scent. Hyacinths are becoming very popular for wedding flowers at Xmas time as well.

To get the best from your wholesale cut hyacinths please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Do not cut off the white firm end of the stem with the small roots on - the hyacinths will condition better with these left on, although they may dirty the water a little.
- Fill clean buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
- Do not condition in the same water as daffodils. Daffodils exude a poisonous sap and this will kill you hyacinths.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the hyacinth in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
