Leucadendron is a genus of the Proteaceae family and is native to South Africa. Leucadendron has a woody cone-shaped seed head at the very top and the waxy leaves are arranged in spirals along the length of the stem.
Around half the varieties of leucadendron have fire proof seed heads and only disperse their seeds after a fire and when the plant is dead!
Leucadendron is available as a cut flower in the UK wholesale flower markets and is sold in wraps of 10 stems. Stem lengths vary from 60cm – 100cm depending on the variety and grade required. Leucadendron is popular in floristry for large floral displays and has a long vase life. Leucadendron is often used in Autumn wedding flowers for large pedestal arrangements.
