Trachelium

Trachelium

Trachelium, (otherwise known as Blue Throatwort), is a genus of the campanula family and is native to the west Mediterranean.

The word ‘Trachelium’ is derived from Greek meaning ‘rough throat’. This is because trachelium was used in herbalism to treat throat disorders.

Trachelium has thousands of tiny flowers in wide clusters at the top of the stems.

In the wholesale flower markets trachelium is available in dark purple, pale blue, lilac, white and green. It is sold in wraps of 10 stems and varies in height between 60 – 80cm depending on the grade required. Generally speaking, the taller the grade, the stronger the flower. Trachelium white is especially effective when used in wedding flowers.

To get the best from your wholesale cut trachelium please read the care instructions below carefully:

  • Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
  • Fill sterilised buckets with luke warm water and add flower food.
  • Place the trachelium in the buckets.
  • Leave over night to condition before using.

Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the trachelium in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
