Echinops (Globe Thistle)

Echinops, (otherwise known as the Globe Thistle), is a genus of the daisy family Asteraceae and is native to Europe and Western Asia.

Echinops flowers are round and spikey. They consist of 1000’s of individual starry, blue flowers and are irresistible to butterflies! Echinops leaves are typically thistle shaped and prickly.

Because of the strong stems and robust flowers echinops is very popular for drying. To dry, simply hang upside down in a warm, dark and dry place.

On the wholesale flower markets echinops is available as a cut flower and sold in wraps of 10/20 stems. Stem length is usually no taller than 60cm. Although not the most popular cut flower in the world, echinops can be very effective in floral bouquets, arrangements and Scottish wedding flowers.

To get the best from your wholesale cut echinops please read the care instructions below carefully:

Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
Fill sterilised buckets with cold water and add flower food.
Place the echinops in the buckets.
Leave over night to condition before using.

Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the echinops in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
