Brassica (Ornamental Cabbage)

Brassica (Ornamental Cabbage)

Wholesale Brassica, also known as Ornamental cabbage or Flowering Kale, is a distinctive cut flower grown for its decorative rosette of coloured leaves. Its large, rounded shape creates strong impact and makes it particularly useful for autumn, winter and contemporary floral designs.

Although Brassica resembles a cabbage, the florist varieties are specially cultivated with long, clean stems. The decorative centres may be white, cream, pink, lilac or purple and surrounded by layers of green leaves.

Conditioning and Care

To get the best from your wholesale cut brassica, please read the care instructions below carefully:

  • Ideal temperature range 2 to 10 degrees
  • Brassica have thick stems that can de-hydrate relatively quickly if left out of water. They are resistant to low temperatures.
  • Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle with a sharp knife or secateurs to encourage water uptake.
  • Fill sterilised buckets with fresh, clean water and add flower food.
  • Place the brassica in the buckets.
  • Leave overnight to condition before using.
  • To avoid any cabbage odours, change the water every 2-3 days and remove any yellowing leaves.
  • Benefits from flower food.
  • Not edible

Never leave cut flowers in direct sunlight, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers. Keep the brassica in a cool place and always keep it out of the way of children.
