Scabious (Scabiosa)

Scabious, (real name ‘Scabiosa’ and commonly known as ‘Pincushion Flower’), is a genus of the Dipsacaceae family and native to Asia and Europe.
Scabious flowers are small and are usually soft blue and various shades of lilac in colour.
In the wholesale flower markets scabious is available in cut form and is usually sold in wraps of 10 or 20 stems. Scabious has a very short vase life and cannot be relied on for any more than the intended day of use. Scabious is very popular for wedding flowers when in season.

To get the best from your wholesale cut scabious please read the care instructions below carefully:
- Cut the stems at a 45 degree angle with a sharp knife.
- Fill sterilised buckets with cold luke warm and add flower food.
- Place the scabious in the buckets - nearly up to their necks in water.
- Leave over night to condition before using.
Never leave cut flowers in direct sun light, near a radiator, in a draft or near fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will harm most flowers). Keep the scabious in a cool place and always keep out of the way of children.
