How to Make a Rattan basket arrangement with garden roses
This June, our focus is Garden Roses. Here we are demonstrating a floral arrangement using Garden ERose Kate (David Austin) pared with standard roses, peonies, greenery and clematis. Ideal for a gift for a close relative, friend or colleague at work for a birthday or special occaion.
You could also decorate an event or wedding using the colour combination for a rustic or cottage garden styled event.
To recreate this design you will need:
- 1x12 Garden Rose Kate
- 1x20 Rose Bridal Dusky Pink
- 1x10 Peony Pink
- 1x10 Rose Spray Magical Pepita
- 1x10 Clematis amazing
- 1 Bunch Olive Branches
- 1 x Rattan Basket
- 2 x Floral Foam Bricks (wet)
- 1 x Anchor Tape 12mm
- Scissors or Floristry Knife
Step by Step Guide
-
Condition all of the flower varieties that you will be using for the arrangement for at least a few hours or preferably overnight in water in a cool, low lit environment.
-
Soak the oasis floral bricks in water and position in your container. Make sure the basket or the container is lined with cellophane to make it watertight. Make sure the oasis sits above the basket.
-
Secure the floral bricks to the basket by using the anchor tape (otherwise known as pot tape).
-
Start by creating the base of the arrangement with the greenery. On this occasion, we are using olive branches.
-
Next, add the spray roses to define and create the shape of the arrangement. Remove all of the foliage from the stems.
-
Next, add the clematis to the design. On this occasion, we have kept the foliage on the stems to add further texture and character to the design.
-
Continue to add the roses, peonies and garden roses to the arrangement, creating an aesthetically pleasing design and an even balance of colour throughout.
-
Fill in any gaps with the foliage from the stems or any olive branches that are left over.
