Peonies
Peonies are notoriously difficult to predict and have always been a florist's nightmare. This is because the flower bud opening time depends on how developed they are when picked and sent to auction, the weather (temperature) and specific variety. As a wholesaler it is difficult for us to advise on when to order them.
Step-by-Step Guide
-
On arrival remove all packing (or leave on if you want to hold back the flowers opening)
-
With a sharp knife cut the bottom of the stems at a 45 degree angle
-
Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and flower food
-
Submerge the stems in the deep water
-
Monitor the progress of the flower blooms opening - pleace in a cooler, darker environment if opening too quickly
-
To speed up opening, place in a warmer, lighter environment
-
Top tip - after conditioning, re-wrap tightly in paper to stop them developing too quickly
