Peonies

Peonies are notoriously difficult to predict and have always been a florist's nightmare. This is because the flower bud opening time depends on how developed they are when picked and sent to auction, the weather (temperature) and specific variety. As a wholesaler it is difficult for us to advise on when to order them.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. On arrival remove all packing (or leave on if you want to hold back the flowers opening)
  2. With a sharp knife cut the bottom of the stems at a 45 degree angle
  3. Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and flower food
  4. Submerge the stems in the deep water
  5. Monitor the progress of the flower blooms opening - pleace in a cooler, darker environment if opening too quickly
  6. To speed up opening, place in a warmer, lighter environment
  7. Top tip - after conditioning, re-wrap tightly in paper to stop them developing too quickly
