When Should I Order Roses?

  • We recommend delivery 2-3 days before the event
  • This allows time for vital conditioning and development
  • Roses are generally reliable, but benefit from preparation time

Step-by-step conditioning guide:

1. Carefully remove all packaging

2. Strip any leaves that will sit below the waterline

3. Remove outer guard petals if needed

4. Cut 2-3cm off each stem at a sharp angle with a florist knife, secateurs or carbon blade scissors

5. Place immediately into fresh, clean buckets of water

6. Store in a cool, low lit environment

7. Allow roses time to hydrate fully before arranging

Commong Problems & Solutions:

  • Drooping Roses: Likely due to de-hydration or air blockages in the stem, just re-cut the stems, slit up the stems and place into fresh clean water
  • Outer petals damaged: Remove the outer protective 'guard' petals to reveal the fresh blooms underneath.
  • Short vase life: Bacteria build up, incorrect environment, air blockages in the stem and other environmental conditions.

Common Questions

  1. Question: What are guard petals on roses? Answer: Guard petals are outer petals on a rose to protect the flower during transport. They can be removed if marked or damaged.
  2. Question: Should I remove leaves from rose stems? Answer: Yes, any of the leaves that are below the waterline should be removed during the conditioning process to prevent bacteria build up.
  3. Question: Why are my roses drooping? Answer: This is usually due to dehydration and blocked stems. Re-cutting and fresh water will help revive them.
  4. Question: How long do roses last after preparation? Answer: Most roses will last 5-14 days when conditioning correctly and dependent on the grade and variety.
